Katman is the nickname of Nikos Katelis (Greek: Νίκος Κατέλης), an allegedly mentally retarded[1] singer. He is known in Greece, for appearing in varoius trash TV shows, being a performer of satirical songs in the weekly show named Je T'Aime.

Katman was first discovered by the presenter of the television show To Hryso Koufeto, Annita Pania. He visited that old mating show in 1996 in order to find a spouse. Pania sympathized him and hired him as a co-presenter.

Since then, he continually appears in her weekly show, performing various songs, with the most famous to be his new hit O erastis sou (Your lover). Katman also performs crude and improvisional theatrical shows on the show's stage, in which he impersonates various fictional and historical figures, from Hamlet to Napoleon.

As a duet with another trash television singer, Giorgos Tambakis, Katman became known throughout Greece performing shows in various cities of the country.

[edit] Controversy

Many people criticize Pania for publicly making spectacle (and causing viewers doing the same) of people who are not aware of their lack of talent, and are sometimes considered mentally retarded according to the viewers[2]. While Katman has met some popularity thanks to his comicallity and clumsiness, critics compare Pania's show as a circus "freak show" which insults human dignity [3].
