Katapult is a Linux software utility for KDE. It allows the user to quickly launch applications or open files by pressing Alt + space and typing the beginning of the file or application name. It has been written in C++.
Katapult doubles as a quick calculator ,spell checker, and document viewer. Simply activate Katapult and type in an expression (e.g. "5+1") and the solution will appear on the right (e.g. "6"). Type spell space and the word you want to check the spelling of. If the word is spelled correctly you will see a check on the katapult interface.
You do not need to type in the entire name of the file to access it, only the first few letters. You also need not always type in the name of the application from the beginning. For instance, you could type "c/c+" and katapult will show "KDevelop: C/C++", assuming you have KDevelop installed. If you wish to cancel opening Katapult, the Escape key will exit it quickly. After the displayed application you wish to open is shown, simply press "Enter" to open it.
It was inspired by Quicksilver for Mac OS X.
