Katō Shūichi

Katō Shūichi (加藤周一 19 September 1919 - ) is a Japanese critic and author. He is best known for his works in the field of literature and culture.
Born in Tokyo, Katō has in his time served as lecturer at Tokyo University (Dept of Literature) and Yale University, professor at the Free University of Berlin and the University of British Columbia, guest professor at Ritsumeikan University (Dept of International Relations), and curator of the Kyoto Museum for World Peace.
Katō has a degree as a Doctor of Medicine, specialising in haematology.
