The Katipunan ng Kabataan is the federation of youths in the Philippines with chapters in every village all over the archipelago locally known as Barangay. Presently, there are 41,995 chapters as there are 41,995 barangays in the Philippines.
The creation of the Katipunan ng Kabataan is mandated by Republic Act 7160, otherwise known as the Local Government Code of 1991. Although, it has been formally created by virtue of this act, the Katipunan ng Kabataan has long been in existence since 1975 with the Kabataang Barangay as its precursor organization.
The duties of the Katipunan ng Kabataan is a carry-over from the Kabataang Barangay youth organization created during the Marcos-era. It is the local youth program and projects implementation partner of the government. The Katipunan ng Kabataan members elect their officers known as Sangguniang Kabataan which serves as the local youth legislature in the village.
