Good to see the description of Kasangadu on the web site. Thanks for your effort.

“Kasangadu name might come from the name of a tree (kasa) and the word for forest in the local language (gadu); kasa trees may once have been prevalent in this area.”

I believe the wealth (kasu) could be accumulated once the village people got settled and developed themselves to subsist.

Should this be a correct narrative of Kasangadu..?

Rathinam Srinivasan, New Zealand.

Hi Rathinam,

What you have written is may be correct and for your reason we can find only one name that is Kallikadu.

But our grantfas & mas what they told is who setteled here first had a name Kasuvelan (velan is cast name). Our Local community people called cultivating land by Vayal/Kadu and some times vayalkadu (for ex. Valakattu Nary) .

so that the name may come from His name and his kadu Kasuvelan+Kadu = KasanKadu (kasangadu).

I thing you may know our surrounding village's name are Silambevelangadu(silambuvelen kadu), Mannangadu(manavan Kadu), Maravakkadu(maravan kadu).
