Kastelruth (Italian: Castelrotto; Archaic (982AD): Castellorupto; Latin: Castellum Ruptum) is a comune (municipality) in the province of Bolzano-Bozen in the Italian region Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, located about 70 km northeast of the city of Trento and about 20 km northeast of the city of Bolzano. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 6,166 and an area of 117.8 km².[1]
The municipality of Kastelruth contains the frazioni (subdivisions, mainly villages and hamlets) Alpe di Siusi, Bulla (Bula), Roncadizza (Roncadic), San Michele Siusi, Snat'Osvaldo, San Valentino, San Vigilio, Tagusa, Tisana, and Oltretorrente (Sureghes). Siusi allo Sciliar is a località of the comune.
Kastelruth borders the following municipalities: Barbian, Campitello di Fassa, Völs am Schlern, Lajen, Urtijëi, Waidbruck, Ritten, Santa Crestina Gherdëina and Tiers.
