Kastania (Pieria), Greece

Kastania (Greek: Καστανέα; is a village in Pieria Prefecture, Greece. Its population as of the 2001 census was 423.[1]
It dates from Byzantine times, and Byzantine churches are still in evidence. It is a picturesque mountain village situated at the beginning of a large gorge leading down to a pleasant beach. Wealth derives from its surrounding farm land and from shipping. In recent years this pretty village has become known for its nearby cave, which is now accessible to the public.
