Kassel Calden Airport (German Flughafen Kassel-Calden) (IATA: KSF, ICAO: EDVK) lies 13 km as the crow flies north of the German city of Kassel. Built on farmland 908ft ASL lying NNE of the Hoher Dörnberg, the airport was opened on 11 July 1970. The airport has a single asphalt runway, 04/22 (040°/220°), which is approximately 4900ft long and 100ft wide. There is a parallel grass strip north of the main runway, which is approximately 2900ft long and 100ft wide. It has been operated as a public-private partnership since 1991.
[edit] Future development
There are current plans to enlarge the airport to a full regional airport, with a projected increase in the runway length to approximately 8200ft and width to approximately 150ft to accommodate commercial chartered and scheduled carriers.
[edit] Airlines and destinations
The main runway is currently too short for most commercial (charter and scheduled) jet-powered and the larger turboprop aircraft, and most of the 35,000 annual aircraft movements are general aviation, sports, and helicopter flights. There is also a flying school, an ultralight flying school, and a parachuting school based on site.
