Kassa Haile Darge

Ras Kassa Haile Darge (1881 - 1956) was a Shewan nobleman, the son of Haile Wolde Kiros of Lasta and Tisseme Darge, and grandson of Ras Darge Sahle Selassie the brother of Menelik II's father.
A churchman, he ruled Salale province near the monestery of Debre Libanos. Ras Kassa as Qegnazmach commanded the Army of the Right in the Second Italo-Abyssinian War. His forces fought in the Second Battle of Tembien and the Battle of Maych'ew. Following defeat in the war he went into exile with Haile Selassie, spending most of his time in Jerusalem. He returned with the Emperor and Gideon Force as part of the British 1941 East African Campaign. After the war he became a Crown Counsellor.
