Kashipur is a city and a municipal board in Udham Singh Nagar District in the Indian state of Uttarakhand.

Kashipur was known as Govishan during the time of Harsha (606–647 AD), when Xuanzang (631–641 AD) visited this region. The ruins of the large settlement of those days are still to be seen near the city. Kashipur is named after Kashinath Adhikari, the founder of the township and one of the officers of the Chand rulers of Kumaon in the middle age.
Poet Gumani has written a poem on this town. Girital and Drona sagar are well known spots and are associated with the story of the Pandavas. The Chaiti mela is the best known fair of Kashipur. Today Kashipur is an important industrial township. In autumn (after monsoon) one can see the snowclad peaks of Trishul and its surroundings.
After Harsha's decline of the empire, Kashipur became a forest and then was rehabilitated during the time of Independence.

The nearest Airport is 72 km away at Pantnagar. Kashipur is well connected to Ramnagar, Kathgodam, Moradabad, Bareilly, Lucknow and Delhi by rail network. Kashipur is well connected by road with all the major cities of the state and region. Kashinath Adhikari was the first founder of this city. It is located at national highway NH-74. Delhi is about 225 km and Haridwar also above 200 km apart from Kashipur. It is the biggest Town of Udham Singh Nagar district.

As of 2001 India census[1], Kashipur had a population of 92,978. Males constitute 53 % of the population and females 47 %. Kashipur has an average literacy rate of 68 %, higher than the national average of 59.5 %: male literacy is 73 %, and female literacy is 62 %. In Kashipur, 14 % of the population is under 6 years of age. Languages spoken are Punjabi, Hindi and English.

Central Government recently announced Several Benefits. With a government eager to promote trade and industry by providing extensive benefits and incentives, Kashipur has become the new industrial hub in India. With Kashipur fast becoming a thriving industrial center, the city is ideally suited for Industrial Park projects. Large industrial houses such as TATA, Mahindra, HCL, Videocon, Nestle, Britannia, Kirloskar, Bajaj, Lohia Auto Industries and several paper & sugar mills already have a presence in the district.
Lot of new industry is coming up in Kashipur: Prominent existing units are: India Glycols Limited,Cheema Paper group.Jindal Group of industries, Naini Paper mills, Sidharth Paper Mills, Banwari Paper Mills, Goraya Paper Mills, Kashipur Sugar Mills, Multiwall Paper, Midas Foods(India) Pvt Ltd and Industrial & Farm Equipment Co ( both of Naroola house), Surya Roshni Ltd, Prakash Tubes to name a few.
