The state of Hyderabad was ruled by the Nizam authorities between 1724 and 1949. They used a private army known as Razakars (Hyderabad). From his teen years, Narayana mobilized people to face the Razakars and organized Dalams. He was arrested and imprisoned at Chanchalguda central prison for 4 months. He was just 19 years at that time.

In 1947, Prince Mukaramzha came to Devaruppal to pacify the agitation of people and side-step their fight. It was just a few days after Narayana was released from prison. He spoke to Mukaramzha about the plight of people under the Nizam rule and the Razakars (Hyderabad). The authorities subsequently issued an arrest warrant against Narayana under Raja Droham. Under the directive of the Communist Party of India, Narayana went underground and began mobilizing people as Dalams. He worked as Area Dalam Commander, Zonal Commander and Central Commander.

The Supreme Court of India later dismissed the charges against Narayana.
