[edit] License tagging for Image:Whyalla council Logo.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Whyalla council Logo.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 15:11, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free image (Image:Frank1.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Frank1.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. [edit] King George whiting

Hi Kare Kare. You are off to such a great start on the article King George whiting that it may qualify to appear on Wikipedia's Main Page under the Did you know... section. The Main Page gets about 4,000,000 hits per day and appearing on the Main Page may help bring publicity and assistance to the article. However, there is a five day from article creation window for Did you know... nominations. Before five days pass from the date the article was created and if you haven't already done so, please consider nominating the article to appear on the Main Page by posting a nomination at Did you know suggestions. If you do nominate the article for DYK, please cross out the article name on the "Good" articles proposed by bot list. Also, don't forget to keep checking back at Did you know suggestions for comments regarding your nomination. Again, great job on the article. -- Jreferee (Talk) 17:35, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your maps

Any chance of putting these on Wikimedia Commons?

Thank you for uploading images/media to Wikipedia! There is however another Wikimedia foundation project called Wikimedia Commons, a central media repository for all free media. In the future, please consider creating an account and uploading media there instead. That way, all the other language Wikipedias can use them too, as well as our many sister projects. This will also allow our visitors to search for, view and use our media in one central location. If you wish to move previous uploads to Commons, see Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons. Please note that non-free content, such as images claimed as fair use, cannot be uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons. Help us spread the word about Commons by informing other users, and please continue uploading!

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:PAug_logo.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:PAug_logo.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ~ Wikihermit 01:53, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] RE: Whiting

Hi Kare Kare,

Thanks for the message. You caught me in the middle of a little re-jiggle, hence the duplication. I found the original layout ambiguous and rather confusing and also felt that a 'disambiguation', or perhaps 'list' page would be a more suitable (and standard) place to develop a more complete listing of the various whitings which occur around the world. I hope my intentions, as well as the articles are a little more clear now that I have finished! —Preceding unsigned comment added by IonaJane (talkcontribs) 05:08, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

I'm glad you understand and appreciate my intentions! It is good to see someone looking after Wikipedia too. Re. pointing the whiting (fish) redirect at the disambiguation page. Would a 'Whiting (fish) redirects here, for other fish called whiting see whiting (fish) (disambiguation).' at the top of the Merlangius_merlangus page satisfy your concerns? Isn't this usual in cases where numerous things have all been named after one common predecessor? Part of the problem I with the original layout was the excessive drill down which it took to get from whiting to the article about the fish called whiting (Merlangius_merlangus). Obviously the names of the other types of whiting such as Sillago, pollock, hake, pacific whiting et al. can, and should, lead directly to their articles so why do you feel it necessary to bury the Merlangius_merlangus so deeply? IonaJane 05:48, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
Thank you! I know you are just trying to protect Wikipedia - honourable intentions indeed.
I'm glad you see the method to my initial madness. I have made the changes we discussed to Merlangius_merlangus and will revert Whiting (fish) to point to it as you approve of this. Please have a quick glance at the changes to make certain they satisfy your concerns. I agree completely about expanding on the descriptions in the main whiting disambiguation and will do that now, if you haven't beaten me to it. I'm delighted that you are going to develop the Whiting (fish) (disambiguation) list as I was about to do the same but you seem eminently more qualified! Keep up the good work IonaJane 06:26, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
Whiting updated appropriately, I shall leave the fish list to you for reasons already given! I'm pleased we've found a way to simplify that double disambiguation route to Merlangius_merlangus. I agree that it should now be clear to anyone arriving at that article by mistake when looking for another whiting that that one isn't theirs. It may even be of interest to them to find the whiting their whiting was named after... it has certainly interested me and I'm looking forward to seeing your finished list. IonaJane 06:57, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Yellow clown goby GA nomination

Thank you for your input. Seriously, you have a lot more experience at this than I. I was reading What is a good article?, and for broad coverage, note 3 says that "This requirement is significantly weaker" than for FA's. On Good vs. Featured, it says, in regard to GA, "the broad standard merely requires coverage of main points". I'm not suggesting that the article is a great article, but I believe it (barely) meets GA. Do you think I'm being overly generous in my interpretation? In light of the details I've presented here, I'd genuinely like your opinion. Cheers and thanks in advance! Mmoyer 02:09, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for the detailed suggestions for improvement you left on my talk page. I will use these to full advantage to improve the article. [edit] Masso ref

Do you still need Erickson et al (2001) "Dinosaurian growth patterns and rapid avian growth rates." Nature 412: 429-433 doi:10.1038/35086558?

If so, i have it and have scanned through it. It has a bit on growth rates of Massospondylus, but not much on the actual mass. It does have a ref to a paper which has supposedly calculated the mass:
Chinsamy (1993) A. Bone histology and growth trajectory of the prosauropod dinosaur Massospondylus carinatus Owen. Modern Geology 18, 319-329

If you need the paper, just yell and i'll get it to you via email. Cheers Kare Kare 12:44, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi Kare Kare!
Wow, I didn't think anyone had it, and I'm really surprised a comment that old was responded to. First of all, thank you for your generous offer. I'd like to take you up on it. I will use the Wikipedia e-mail function to give you my e-mail address.
Although I was hoping it would have some mass calculations, even if it doesn't, there may be some useful information in there that I can add to the Massospondylus article. I'd like this article to be as comprehensive as possible, and it won't be without the papers which discuss it. So I really appreciate your offer.
I did find some mass calculations for Massospondylus in Seebacher (2001) "A new method to calculate allometric length-mass relationships of dinosaurs" Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology 21(1) 51–60, but that was based on a 4 meter length for Massospondylus, while some other sources give longer lengths for it. Obviously, if a second opinion exists on weight, I'd like to have it. It's too bad the paper doesn't have it, but I will be on the lookout for Chinsamy (1993). Thanks for the tip.
Best wishes, Firsfron of Ronchester 16:31, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Temporal paradox (paleontology)

I just came across this article that seems to be an offshoot of the origin of birds page. It deals with Deinonychosauria and the fact they are mostly Creatceous in origin while aves were up and running by the end of the Jarassic. Therefore aves could't have evolved from deinonychosaurs etc etc. Anyway it's not Dino tagged and in need of formatting, so i will leave it with you. Kare Kare 08:45, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] re: Indian Threadfish

Hi Kare Kare. Thanks for educating me on fish identification. I'm none more than a connoisseur of sea food. :-) I went by this common name in Malayalam to come to that conclusion. The shop was run by a Malayalee and he said it's "paara". Perhaps he meant this fish which is "paarai" in Tamil language and he knows I'm Tamil. :-) And in Tamil "paarai" is more of a generic name. Sorry for the confusion. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 03:32, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Sure, will do. Looking at these fishes, I think that one belongs to the genus Caranx. In any case, the image needs to be renamed to something else now. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 05:56, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
Looks like Caranx latus per this, but the site says it's native habitat doesn't include India.

Another one, probably a Trachinotus

I've uploaded a couple more photos of probably Carangidae. Please try identifying them. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 05:01, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for your encouragement. I've added the identification information and Category:Carangidae in commons. However, I'm not sure how to move these to appropriate pages. Do I have to reupload them and mark the existing ones for deletion? -- Sundar \talk \contribs 07:31, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Yep, I've sorted them out. Thanks. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 13:09, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Whyalla council Logo.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Whyalla council Logo.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. [edit] Small-scale whiting

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Small-scale whiting, and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: User:Kare Kare/sandbox. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 13:21, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi. I've nominated Cleftbelly trevally, an article you worked on, for consideration to appear on the Main Page as part of Wikipedia:Did you know. You can see the hook for the article at Template talk:Did you know#Articles created/expanded on January 1, where you can improve it if you see fit. Thanks, PFHLai (talk) 23:58, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

I'll tell you what. I'll keep creating articles and you can keep nominating them as soon as they appear on the bot list. I can never come up with good hooks for articles, and usually forget about it anyway. Kare Kare (talk) 08:50, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] RE: Black Jack

Good idea! I'll try and move the article to Black jack (fish), but i'm at lunch right now and i may not have time to do it until to night. thanks,Ryan shell (talk) 17:30, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Horse-eye jack

You're pic look perfect, thanks again. as for the tail color, i checked my references and all but one of them describes the fish as yellow-tailed (the one that did not had a picture of the Horse-eye jack with a yellow tail), so i changed the description section slightly. Anyway, you picture look great and if you're ever bored, i'll probably have a fish article in need of illustration. Ryan shell (talk) 14:39, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

P.S. your Yellowtail scad picture (and article) both look great.

[edit] Fly fishing for sillaginids

Yeah, g'day.

I've just bunged this stuff in because I'm not a fly fisherman and I couldn't get one to hold my hand. I'll do another round later on commercial fish - you're very welcome to correct me on any I get wrong.

Add it to 1000 odd pages! Nah. I'll just settle it down to say the top twelve. It has "Other targets..." at the bottom, which goes to the category list :p --Geronimo20 (talk) 13:39, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Alex Council Logo.jpg}

Thank you for uploading Image:Alex Council Logo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page.
