[edit] Notability

The general consensus is that Top 10 competitors on Idol series are deemed notable enough for articles, not so much as musicians, but as television articles (all 31 contestants from the first three seasons have them). It's analogous in my opinion to having articles for individual episodes of a television series. Kirjtc2 16:55, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

Karen's song "Bitter End" (no relation to the recent song of the same name by the Dixie Chicks) has had heavy radio airplay on country music stations here in BC. I see no reason why an article on Ms. Batten is not notable. She has also been an opening act for a couple of bigger country music performers. I'm going to remove the tag questioning the article's notability. However, this article should be certainly expanded to discuss her musical career post-Canadian Idol. --Chris Thompson 05:22, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

I noticed someone put the importance tag back on. I'm going to remove it again. Here's my reasoning, based on the criteria listed in Wikipedia:Notability (music):
  • She is featured on the soundtrack album to a major television show (Canadian Idol Greatest Moments), meeting criterion #10. That album was certified Gold in Canada (www.cria.ca/gold/0903_g.php), also effectively meeting criterion #2.
  • She won the BCCMA's Female Vocalist of the Year award twice in a row, meeting criterion #9.
  • She placed in the top 10 finalists for Canadian Idol, as User:Kirjtc2 said above, also meeting criterion #9 (and #10 as well, depending on how you interpret it).
She only needs to meet one of the criteria listed in Wikipedia:Notability (music) in order to have that tag removed. I think she meets several, even if you consider her CD and radio airplay irrelevant. --Chris Thompson 05:15, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
