Karl Vollers

Karl Vollers (March 19, 1857 - January, 5, 1909), German Orientalist.
After studying Protestant theology and Oriental languages his first position was teacher at a local gymnasium (high-school) in Saxony. Then he got an appointment as director of the Khedival Library in Cairo, a position held by several German Orientalists before World War I. He earned his reputation as dialectologist by writing one of the first studies on Egyptian contemporary language. He hold this position for almost ten years.
He was professor for Oriental languages at the Faculty of Philosophy at Jena University from 1896 to 1909. In this function he served as well as director of the "Grandducal Oriental Coin Cabinet Jena."
