Karl Rankl

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Karl Rankl (18981968) was an Austrian conductor and composer. He studied with Arnold Schoenberg for four years beginning in 1918. He became a chorus master at the Volksoper in Vienna and then an assistant conductor. He then became assistant to Otto Klemperer at the Krolloper in Berlin and had conducting jobs in Wiesbaden and Graz. During World War II Rankl came to England. He was music director of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, from 1946 to 1951, working with Reginald Goodall then an assistant conductor who considered Rankl "under-rated".
