Karl Ernst Claus (Dorpat, Russian Empire, [now Tartu, Estonia ] 22 January 179624 March 1864) was a Russian chemist of Baltic German origin, professor at Kazan State University,[1] and discoverer of ruthenium. Claus discovered the element Ruthenium, which is a transition element now listed in the periodic table, naming it after Ruthenia the latin name of Russia.[2][3]
