Karkaar is the name of series of mountains in Northeast portion of Somalia.

It is also the name of an administrative region defined by the self-declared autonomous state of Puntland. This territory occupies the south of what has traditionally been the Bari region of Somalia and generally lies south of the Karkaar mountain range.[1]

Karkaar has five districts of: Gardo District, Bandar Beila, Hafun, Wa'iye, Rako.

The region has population of almost 150,000 and is economically dependent on livestock and seasonal fishing ( for its coastal districts).
