Kari Taalasmaa

Kari Taalasmaa is a fictional character in the popular Finnish soap opera Salatut elämät. He first appeared in the series from 1999–2004 and returned in 2007. He is played by Tommi Taurula.

Taalasmaa is Ulla Taalasmaa's and Seppo Taalasmaa's eldest son, and Elina Taalasmaa's half brother via his mother. He was in prison when the series began, for an assault on the man who had raped Elina Taalasmaa. He lacked education and worked as a car thief, among other trades. He was later romantically involved with Laura Kiviranta, with whom he had a daughter, Oona. Taalasmaa left the series in 2004, when he moved to Tampere with Jenni Vainio's sister Katja Vainio.

In 2007, Taalasmaa returned to Salatut elämät. In one memorable scene, he knocked Tuomo out, prompted by Tuomo's poor treatment of Taalasma's sister Elina.

At one point, Taalasmaa felt so unsuccessful that he tried to commit suicide.
