Karen Aim was a Scottish woman who was murdered in the town of Taupo, New Zealand on January 17, 2008. The 26-year-old was on her way home after drinking with friends in Taupo, when she was murdered, allegedly by a 14-year-old boy. Aim, who was on a working holiday in New Zealand, was found lying in a pool of blood on a street corner by police.
The boy who has been charged with the murder cannot be named because of his age. He faces a minimum sentence of life imprisonment, normally allowing a release after 10 years, if convicted of murder. [1]
In February 2008, a prominent British composer, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, the Master of the Queen’s Music, said he had written a composition in Aim's memory after being "moved and shocked" by her death.[2]
