Kareena Ferreira was a fictional character in the popular BBC soap opera EastEnders. She was played by Pooja Shah.
[edit] Description
Kareena first appeared on the show in 2003, arriving with her father and three brothers. She ran a clothes market stall with brother Adi. Her opening storyline involved her having a secret romantic relationship with Tariq, who was best friends with her brother Ronny. Tariq didn't want Kareena's dad Dan to discover his affair with Kareena, so he slyly dropped comments into their conversations that discouraged Kareena from telling Dan. She finally admitted the truth to her family at a wedding, after they broke up.
Following a storyline in which Kareena and her brothers survived a minibus crash, Tariq was revealed to be Kareena's half brother, which left her furious and disgusted that she had dated him. Kareena forgave Tariq, after Ronny was stabbed and Tariq donated a kidney to save his life.
After this, Kareena was not seen much, and her only real storyline since then was her relationship with Mickey Miller. Kareena's brothers were driven out of Walford by Johnny Allen in 2005, and Kareena opted to leave with them, even though it meant sacrificing her relationship with Mickey.
[edit] Criticism
Similar to the other Ferreiras, Kareena was arguably a deeply unpopular character. In 2004, Kareena was seen heading off to Spain, with Kelly Taylor; when she returned, she brought with her a sexier new look, in a bid by producers to spice her up, though this failed. As new producer Kathleen Hutchison took over in 2004, Pooja Shah, along with the rest of her Ferreira co-stars, were axed from the soap.
