Karachi United F.C. Football club is Pakistani football club based in the southern city of Karachi, and is arguably one of the best established clubs in the city as well as the entire country for being unique in having a proper professional setup. It was established in 1996.
The club has been responsible for many of the popular tournaments in the city such as the KASB League and the Karachi United School Championships.
[edit] Youth
Karachi United started their youth program in 2001 with just a few players. The youth program has produced some amazing progress by sending the team to Manchester United soccer schools in 2004 and then later they sent 2 young players to Charlton Athletic in the summer of 2006 and once more in 2007.
Karachi United youth is divided into two groups, Academy and Program. The Academy has advanced training as compared to the Program, which was established to develop the fundamental skills of players. Each group is divided further into two other groups, which are Academy seniors and juniors, and Program seniors and juniors.
Youth focuses on four founding principles, namely Technique, Speed, Discipline and Skill.
Throughout the course, participants are assessed to determine their level of achievement, relative competencies, strengths and weaknesses. Along with theoretical knowledge of the sport, elements such as game sense and knowledge that are essential components for all footballers form the core elements of the curriculum.
In addition to producing footballers, by the very nature of working with youngsters, KUFC Youth also recognizes the social development responsibility that comes with it. Characteristics developed through exercises and activities within KUFC Youth help shape personalities and teach principles such as ethics, team building, and organization. This is very much in line with the club's aim and objectives of not only providing football coaching but also aid in the social development of the youth in Pakistan.
[edit] Community Work
Karachi United as a club has also taken an initiative to help the footballing community primarily in trying to raise the standard of the game in the country. The club provides contractual coaching to Center for Advance Studies (CAS school) and also often participated in matches and enjoys relations with many clubs in Lyari where in the past most of Karachi's footballing talent has come for. On one occasion the club with the aid of Muslim Commercial Bank has even donated equipment and apparel to the youth in Lyari.
The first edition in 2006 of the Karachi United School Championship was won by Karachi grammar School who beat Lyceum School in the final. In 2007 Karachi Grammar won again this time beating St.Patrick's High School. The third edition of the Karachi United School Championship saw a repeat 2007's final. Karachi Grammar School again won out beating St.Patrick's High School 2-0 in the final.
