Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) is a Mass Transport System (MRTS) proposed for the city of Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. A plan for building a mass transit system for this city has been under consideration since 1976. For various reasons this project has been kept on hold for a long time. In 2002 the Government of Sindh has appointer Engineering Consultants International (ECIL), a consulting firm to prepare a project work to revive this project. The study was named Viable Implementation Plan for the Revitalization of the Circular Railway. The ECIL has proposed a two-stage implementation for this project. The proposed KCR would connect many of the city’s industrial and commercial districts.
