KARTA Center

KARTA Center (Polish: Ośrodek KARTA) is a Polish non-governmental organization whose goal is to document and spread knowledge about the history of Poland and history of Eastern Europe. It was founded as an illegal underground organization during the time of martial law in Poland, 1982 where it published many underground publications (bibuła). It was legalized in 1990. It is a book and magazine publisher, organizes many exhibitions and educational events, and acts as an archive for documents. Much of its databases and archives are available online. It is a Public Benefit Organization as defined by Polish law.
