This is an image of physicist Karl Taylor Compton, president of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a participant in the Manhattan Project. It has been cropped from a larger image which may be found at:[1], which is a site maintained by the Office of History and Heritage Resources of the United States Department of Energy. The original photo was taken at a meeting held March 29, 1940, and shows Ernest O. Lawrence, Arthur H. Compton (brother of Karl T. Compton), Vannevar Bush, James B. Conant, Karl T. Compton and Alfred L. Loomis. The site's Note on Sources states: "To the best of our knowledge, all text and images on this web site are in the public domain. Almost all of the photographs were generated by government agencies, or by contractors working for the government, and as such are not subject to copyright."
