Kapitan Khlebnikov (icebreaker)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Kapitan Khlebnikov (Russian: Капитан Хлебников) is a Russian (formerly Soviet) icebreaker/cruise ship that offers excursions to the Arctic and Antarctic. Built in 1981 in Finland, it is one of four Kapitan Sorokin class icebreakers, a sister vessel to the Kapitan Dranitsyn, Kapitan Sorokin and Kapitan Nikolayev.
In February 2006 the Kapitan Khlebnikov reached the Bay of Whales in the Antarctic. The ship had reached 78° 40.871' south and equalled the record set by Roald Amundsen in the Fram in 1911.[1]
The Kapitan Khlebnikov was completed in 1981.[2] She is one of the five large icebreakers operated by the Far East Shipping Company.
