[edit] Background

Kaori is a 19-year old computer technician schooled in the art of Tae Kwon Do. She initially entered the V.G. tournament to test her own abilities, but found herself humiliated in the final round by Reimi Jahana. Ever since, she has devoted her training to defeating the multi-time V.G. champion. Despite this, Kaori apparently bears no ill will towards her would-be rival and simply sees defeating her as part of the path she must travel to become stronger.

Kaori is fond of computers and spends much of her spare time participating in chat rooms and message boards. She also has a custom built personal laptop called D-G, which she uses to check and compare her own statistics with those of other competitors. Often, when she finds that she has no statistical chance of losing, she will politely attempt to persuade her opponent to give up and spare themselves any humiliation. More often than not however, this is seen as a sign of arrogance and prompts said opponent to fight her simply to attempt to prove her wrong.

[edit] Fictional Character History

[edit] V.G.: Variable Geo / Advanced V.G.

Kaori competes in an attempt to defeat Reimi, who had humiliated her in a bout the previous year. However, she only gets as far as the semi-finals, where she encounters Yuka Takeuchi and is defeated by the newcomer. Despite this, she and Yuka become friends (Although Yuka complains that Kaori spends too much time on her computer).

[edit] Advanced V.G. 2

While competing in the new tournament, Kaori is the first to come up against newcomer Tamao Mitsurugi, who defeats her. Following this, Kaori is recruited by Reimi to aid in putting a stop to her mother, Miranda's plot to use bio-androids called Hybrids to take over the world. For the remainder of the tournament, Kaori is working behind the scenes, hacking into Miranda's files and slowly removing the Jahana matriarch's influence from the Jahana Group itself.

After Tamao and Yuka defeat Miranda, who promptly attempts to escape via private jet, Kaori, Reimi, Jun Kubota, and Satomi Yajima arrive on the scene, and at the urging of Chiho, who had attempted to assassinate Miranda after sneaking on board her plane, combines her powers with the others to form a massive ki blast that annihilates the plane, Miranada, and seemingly, Chiho as well. However, Chiho reappears alive and well a few days later at a funeral that Yuka, Satomi, and Tamao were having in her honor.

[edit] Other Appearances

As one of the original six, Kaori also makes appearances in every other game within the V.G franchise, including V.G. 2: Bout of Cabalistic Goddess, Super V.G., V.G. Custom, and V.G. Max, all of which are considered to be outside of the series' canon.

[edit] Anime

Kaori appears as a minor character in a three-part OVA based on Super V.G. In this appearance, she is voiced by Yuka Imai.

Kaori makes her first appearance in the first episode of the series, preparing to fight against an unnamed opponent. After using D-G (Referred to as "D-G 2000" here) to compare her own statistics to those of her opponent, she respectfully asks her opponent to forfeit, as Kaori is vastly superior to her in all categories. However, the opponent charges her, and a fight ensues, which Kaori handily wins. When her defeated opponent attempts to flee instead of stripping as per the rules, Kaori watches as she is grabbed by a pair of men working for Reimi and forced to inhale a drug which forces her to tear off her clothing and fondle herself. Recalling a similar defeat and forced exhibition at Reimi's hands, Kaori proclaims to Reimi that she will defeat her this time around, to which Reimi teasingly replies that she can't wait to see how Kaori's body "has improved over the past year".

A few days later, Kaori is at the colisseum where the V.G. finals will be taking place. Having survived the competition this far, she is one of the semi-finalists along with Yuka, Reimi, and Satomi Yajima. While reviewing her data, she finds that Satomi possesses an unusual pattern in her energy wavelength. At this point, a hidden door in the floor opens to reveal Satomi, who is connected to an odd device. Damien, a member of the Jahana Group which is behind the V.G. tournament, states that he would like to have Satomi fight Kaori in an "Unofficial match for the purpose of mutual data collection". Her curiosity about Satomi's unusual wavelength getting the better of her, Kaori agrees and engages Satomi, only to be completely overwhelmed as the device is forcing the spirit of Reimi's mother, Miranda Jahana, into Satomi's body. Kaori later relays her findings to Yuka, who storms the colisseum in an attempt to find Satomi, who has been missing. Due to Kaori's help, Yuka is able to save Satomi and force Miranda's spirit into a white rose, which is subsequently destroyed by Reimi.

At the series' end, Kaori and Reimi, along with Jun Kubota, Manami Kusunoki, and Chiho Masuda, watch on as Yuka and Satomi fight the final battle of the V.G. tournament amidst the now destroyed colisseum.

[edit] Trivia

  • As one of the more experienced fighters, Kaori is often used as a sub-boss that the player must defeat before going on to battle Reimi. She usually serves this role against every other character aside from herself, in which case Yuka or Chiho is normally used to replace her.
  • Kaori is a fighting game rarity both in the fact that she only uses kick-based attacks (other fighting game characters who use Tae Kwon Do are often given a few hand strike moves as a supplement), and that she is able to launch projectile attacks with her legs. The only character to do so before her being King from Art of Fighting and The King of Fighters series.
  • Kaori speaks in a very polite and proper manner, and almost always addresses everyone she meets by their family name followed by the "-san" suffix. The only exceptions to this are people she knows quite well, to whom she refers to by their given name accompanied by the same suffix.
