KAOX is an American FM radio station broadcasting on 107.3 mHz FM and is licensed to Kemmerer, Wyoming. It primarily broadcasts an adult contemporary format, but occasionally broadcasts local high school football and basketball games from Kemmerer as well. Prior to mid 2006, the station was locally programmed and music was not satellite fed as it is today. KAOX would also broadcast ABC News at the top of each hour, followed by local weather. KAOX has two sister stations KMER 940 AM, which is also from Kemmerer, and KDWY 105.3 FM, which is licensed to Diamondville.
[edit] Signal
KAOX broadcasts from a tower located northeast of Kemmerer, and with its 13,500 watt signal, covers much of southwestern Wyoming. The station identifies itself as "The X" and mentions the towns of Evanston, Rock Springs, and Green River when it plays it station identification. The towns in question can hear KAOX fairly clear. A good car radio can be used to receive KAOX in Rock Springs. The station can also be heard in parts of northern Utah and southeastern Idaho, with a good radio, or a car stereo.
KAOX has satellite fed music from a network identifying itself as SAM, or Simply About Music. The format originates from Dial Global, an independent radio network. SAM is similar to the jockless format of Jack FM. KAOX is owned by Simmons Media, which also operates nearby KJQN which is Jack FM for Salt Lake City.
