Talk:Kandawgalay

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kandawgalay is part of WikiProject Myanmar (Burma), a project to improve all Burma related articles on Wikipedia. The WikiProject is also a part of the Counteracting systemic bias group on Wikipedia aiming to provide a wider and more detailed coverage on countries and areas of the encyclopedia which are notably less developed than the rest. If you would like to help improve this and other Burmese-related articles, please join the project. All interested editors are welcome.

This article is about a person, place, or concept whose name is originally rendered in the Burmese script; however the article does not have that version of its name in the article's lead paragraph. Anyone who is knowledgeable enough with the original language is invited to assist in adding the Burmese script.
  • In addition, depending on the subject matter, the name may also need to be rendered in other local languages, such as Shan or Karen, and help of this nature is greatly appreciated and most welcomed.

For more information, see Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Burmese).

Is Kandawgalay perhaps "Kandawgyi Lake", a man-made lake in Rangoon? Chris 20:01, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
I'm not sure of that, but galay means children, and kandaw means lake, so it may be the name of Scout troops in Rangoon.--Hintha 00:49, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
Thank you! I do get bunches of Google hits on it, it almost seems to be the old name of a georgaphical section of Rangoon. Or, going from what you said, maybe it's what the Burmese Scouts called their Sea Scout program? Chris 04:11, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
Kandawgalay is the name of a township/ward in Yangon. It is located near Yangon Zoo and Kandawgyi Lake.Okkar 16:05, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
It's a ward, because there is no township with that name in Yangon. --Hintha 04:36, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
