Kansas Bureau of Investigation

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation, or KBI is the criminal investigative arm of the state of Kansas. The agency was established in 1939 by the Kansas Legislature, and is a division of the state's Attorney General[1]. Among the KBI's responsibilities include providing investigative and labratorial services to criminal justice agencies, and promoting and preventing crime in the state of Kansas[2]. Robert Blecha is the current director of the KBI[3].

The KBI is authorized 85 special agents and 150 civilian employees[4].

The KBI was the primary agency involved in the murder investigation that was chronicled in Truman Capote's In Cold Blood.
