Kannushi

A kannushi (神主) is responsible for the maintenance of a Shinto shrine (jinja) as well as leading worship. He generally does not proselytize. Traditionally, most jinja did not have a kannushi and were maintained by a committee of the local populace who are called ujiko (氏子).
