Kannur City

Kannur City is a location within Kannur municipality in Kannur District of Kerala state, south India.
Kannur City, although just a few kilometres away, is different from Kannur town, which houses the major shopping areas and business establishments.
Kannur City is the home of the Arakkal Palace, the Mappila Bay and many ancient historic mosques. The City Juma Masjid in Kannur City and the mosque at Ayikkara are examples of such mosques of historic significance. The extent of Kannur City begins from Chirakkalkulam, all the way up to Kuruva, near Thazhechovva. Other places falling within the limits of Kannur City are Ayikkara, Chirakkalkulam, Thayyil, Marakkarkandy, Naaluvayal, Anjukkandy, Kuruva, Anayiduck, Kochipalli and Neerchal.
Kerala's one of the most important Islamic scholar "Palliyagath Abdul Kader Moulavi" lived this city. India's deputy external affairs Minister Mr. Ehamad hails from Kannur City.

- Kannur town - is the actual city of Kannur and the administrative headquarters of Kannur District. The major business establishments, government offices, shopping centres, hotels, and showrooms are located in Kannur town.
- Kannur City - is the old Kannur town, just a few kilometres away from Kannur town, and is different from Kannur town. Both Kannur town and Kannur City fall under the Kannur Municipal Council. Kannur City was the ancient capital of the Arakkal kingdom. The Kannur District Headquarters Hospital (locally known as HQ Hospital or District Hospital) is located near Kannur City.
