kannancherry is a small town in kozhikode city.Actually it is a part of Kozhikode city,only 4 KM from the heart of the city.A famous Vinayaka temple is situated there and it attracts thousands of devotees during the annual festival season related to "Vinayaka Chaturthi".Kannancherry also consists of a street called "Chaliya Therivu" means the street of saliya weavers and it was near the Vinayaka Temple there.Local people call this temple as Ganapati Kshetra.Chaliyas of Kannancherry are the patrons of this temple.presently most of the people belonging to the Chaliya community is involved in textile businnes and running textile shops in nearby places like Meenchandaand and Feroke.The local Chaliyas are truly religious people and most of them are supporters of the political party BJP.The Corporation ward including this area is the only BJP elected ward in Calicut city corporation.
