Kankakee Township is in Kankakee County, Illinois. The population was 28,029 at the 2000 census. The City of Kankakee is located in the township. This township has the smallest area in the county, but is second largest in population.
It is located at 41.115582 N, -87.862636 W. It has 46.46 km² (18 sq mi). (17.94 square miles) of land and 1.231 km². (0.475 square miles) covered by water. It has 11,219 housing units.

The township is governed by an elected Town Board of a Supervisor and four Trustees. The Township also has an elected Assessor, Clerk, Highway Commissioner and Supervisor. The Township Office is located at 187 South Schuyler Avenue, Suite 402, Kankakee, IL 60901.
