Kangaroo Jones (first named "Surreal") is an American rock/pop music act originally based out of Garnerville, New York.

Formed in 1993, the band has frequented bars, clubs, and casinos in the New York / New Jersey area for 15 years. To this day, they still perform frequently in that area[1].

[edit] Band Lineup(s)

The original lineup consisted of Brian Riback (bass/vocals), Steve Lefkow (guitar), Ray Rolando (guitar), Chris Dobbins (keyboards), Evan Adler (saxophone), and Jared Cohen (drums). There have been several lineup changes since the band's beginnings. Lefkow and Riback, the chief songwriters, are the only remaining members from the original band. The additions of Chris Richmond (lead guitar) and Frank Schultz (drums) in the late 90's provided the band with a more powerful sound. The eventual addition of a horn section in 2001 completed the instrumental makeup of the current band. Brian Samples (trombone) and Matt Garrison (saxophone) are now core members. Brian Kornfeld (drums) replaced Shultz in 2006, and Joe Dubbiosi (bass/violin) took over for Riback on bass so that he could focus more on his vocal work[2].

[edit] Accomplishments

Kangaroo Jones have won a Battle of the Bands sponsored by VH1's Save the Music, have opened for major acts such as Gavin DeGraw and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy[3], and have appeared on an episode of the Food Network's "Food 911"[4]. The band also won the award for "Underrated Band of the Year" from the "stream of consciousness" website.[5]

[edit] Current Activity

After nearly 15 years as a band, Kangaroo Jones has released their debut album, entitled "Are We There Yet?". The album was released in May of 2008[6]. In support of the album, the band is currently scheduling a local summer tour.
