[edit] Biography
[edit] Early life
Kangana Ranaut is from a village called Bhambla in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh.[1] She completed most of her schooling in Shimla. She studied science and wanted to be a star all time.[2] In a passion for acting, Kangana travelled to Delhi, where she did several theatre shows.
[edit] Personal life
Ranaut's mother is a school teacher and her father is a businessman .[3]
[edit] Career
Kangana moved to Mumbai to try her luck in movies and received the offer for Mahesh Bhatt's 2006 film Gangster. During September 2005 Bollywood Film-maker Anurag Basu spotted her having coffee in a cafe in Bombay, and signed her up for this movie [4].
The film was critically and commercially successful and[5] her performance was especially applauded. Taran Adarsh from indiaFM noted, " Kangana is not just a photogenic face, but also a first-rate actor. It's rare for an actor to get such a difficult role in her very first film and its all the more difficult for the newcomer to carry it off with elan. But Kangana takes to her role of Simran like a fish takes to water. An actor to watch! " [6]
This was followed by another acclaimed performance in Woh Lamhe (2006).[7]. Taran Adarsh wrote that, " Kangana gets the role of a lifetime in her second film itself and the actor sinks her teeth into it and delivers an astounding performance. If you've ever interacted with Parveen Babi, even briefly, you'd see a replica of the glamorous star in Kangana. Her styling is also excellent. " [8]
Later Kangana starred in yet another Anurag Basu's hit film Life In A... Metro as a confused girl who is looking for a real love and in Shakalaka Boom Boom (2007) as an aspiring singer. Kangana's sensitive portrayal in the former as a confused girl who is looking for a real love , earned her rave reviews. Raja Sen from rediff.com noted, " Maybe it's Kangna Ranaut's accent, for one can't really complain about the pretty, interesting actress. The pert young thing is, incredibly, both refreshing as a daisy and darkly compelling as a vampire, and manages to herd her emotions well, playing a complex role but hardly ever overreaching. This is an unconventionally talented actress moving up steadily, and her straight-hair-n-specs look will win her even more fans. "[9]
Kangana was announced as heroine of Jeeva's forthcoming Tamil venture, Dhaam Dhoom on February 19, 2007.
She has at present, a current offer to star in a US-based film entitled "Between the Night and the Moon"(2009). She is to play a character named Zoon and is a romantic film lightly based on Romeo and Juliet. Set in Kashmir and Miami, Florida. Directed by Italian Director Gilda Pianelli. In march 2008 her driver filed a case against her for slapping him.
