Most people speak Telugu which is the regional language in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Some people in Kandukur also speak Urdu.

Kandukur is located at 17.07° N 78.49° E[1]. It has an average elevation of 632 metres (2073 feet).

As of 2001 India census[2], Kandukur had a population of 50,084. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Kandukur has an average literacy rate of 63%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 72%, and female literacy is 55%. In Kandukur, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Kandukur is an assembly constituency in Andhra Pradesh. There are 1,76,773 registered voters in Kandukur constituency in 1999 elections.

Kandukur has a historic back ground . Skandapuri which was an area ruled during srikrishna devaraya period was renamed as kandukur.It is now one of the fastest developing towns in the state. Kandukur has a very big Govt. Arts & Science college named Tikkavarapu RamiReddy (TRR) Govt College. In the era of 100 acres. two engineering colleges were established in and near by the town.

Kandukur is world number one in Tobacco Farming. CTRI (Central Tobacco Research Institute) is part of the town. Many people from Kandukur are working in big IT companies in USA.

Kandukur has two Zilla Parishad High Schools (6th to 10th Class) One for Boys and the other one for girls. These two schools had served so many people inside and around Kandukur who are in various positions in Government and Private Organisations. These two schools appear on the Kandukur main Road (OV Road).

Kandukur has one Government Degree college named Tikkavarapu Rami Reddy Govt College. This is one of the Govt colleges in Prakasam district in early times (up to early nineties). The college is situated on Kovur Road.
