Kanduke was captured from T pod in British Columbia, Canada in August of 1975. When captured he was about 14 ft long and weighted about 2,600 pounds. That made him about 4-5 years old. His mother is thought to be T 7 #REDIRECT Hoyt, Erich 1990. Orca - The Whale Called Killer. E.P. Dutton, New York.
He was sent to Sealand, Victoria and was from there sold to Marineland, Canada where he remained until January 1987 before being sold and moved to SeaWorld.
While at Marineland he did water work with his trainers but once at SeaWorld he was described as a 'moody and unpredictable' whale and the water work stopped. Once at SeaWorld Florida, Kanduke did not get along with a younger Icelandic male named Kotar. They often fought, the aggression eventually getting serious and after an incident in which Kotar bit Kanduke's penis and caused an infection and show cancellations, decision was made for the smaller whale to move to the newly opened SeaWorld Texas.
