Kandi is located at [1]. It has an average elevation of 20 metres (65 feet).
Kandi is a small sub-divisional town in the district of Murshidabad, West Bengal. It is home to a government-run hospital and Kandi Raj High School. The latter was built in the 18th century as theatre owned by the Zamindars of the Kandi Raj family, and later converted into a school under the leadership of Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar. Very near Kandi Raj High School is Kandi Raj College. Such vestiges of the old Raj family appear throughout central Kandi & Jemo Rajbati.
A good number of personalities of historical and cultural importance lived at or attached to Kandi, Among them Ramendra Sundar Tribedi, Dada Thakur(Sarat Chandra Pandit), Jagadish Sinha, Atish Sinha and Byomkes Chakrabarti are notable.
Jajan is a village within 6 km. at south side of Kandi. It is a cultural village. The temple of Sarbamangla Mandir situated in this village at western side.
Reputable libraries in the town indicate a rich culture of its inhabitants.
Kandi is growing regularly. It is also adding to its architectural beauty. The bus-stand building is a good example. Recently an A-site petrol pump (Saraju Filling) is another addition.
There are good schools, Bengali and English medium both that cater to the demand of the people. People's political consciousness is growing and their way of living is expressive of high end achievement in every sphere.

As of 2001 India census[2], Kandi had a population of 50,345. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Kandi has an average literacy rate of 65%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 70%, and female literacy is 60%. In Kandi, 14% of the population is under 6 years of age.
