Kandanad

Kandanad is a small village near the Udayamperoor-Tripunithura border in the Ernakulam District of Kerala, India. Kandanad is around 2 km east of Udayamperoor and 3 km west of Mulanthuruthy.

The place is famous for the Marth Mariam Church functioning under the Malankara Syrian Orthodox Church. Riverdale Retirement Resorts situated here provides retirement condominiums for senior citizens. Mulanthuruthy Marthoman Church is situated nearby.

The village was renowned for its market in the early Middle Ages. Sakrala Mar Basalioces Mapriyana, the head of bishops called bava, is buried in Kandanad Church. He came from Syria to India in the 18th century. The church resembles traditional Jewish Synagogues in many aspects. Kandanad has five churches and three temples. It is known as the Jerusalem of the East. The St. Mary's Prayer Center is also located here.

By the road, Kandanad is easily accessible from Mulanthuruthy, Kanjiramattom, Tripunithura and Ernakulam. Mulanthuruthy Railway Station serves this area. Cochin International Airport is the nearest airport.
