Kanashsky District

Kanashsky District (Russian: Канашский райо́н; Chuvash: Канаш районĕ) is a district (raion) of the Chuvash Republic, Russia. The district's administrative center, the town of Kanash, is located 84 kilometers (52 mi) from Chuvashia's capital city of Cheboksary. Area of the district: 981.4 square kilometers (378.9 sq mi); district's population: 42,623 (2002 Census); 46,236 (1989 Census).
The district was formed on September 5, 1927. It is situated in the central part of Chuvashia, bordering Tsivilsky and Krasnarmeysky Districts in the north, Urmarsky and Yantikovsky Districts in the east, Komsomolsky and Ibresinsky Districts in the south, and Vurnarsky District in the west.
The head of the District Administration is Vladislav Vasilyevich Sofronov.
