Kananook (station code: KAN) is an unmanned railway station on the Frankston line in Melbourne, Australia, situated between the Frankston Freeway and Wells Road in Seaford. The station has one central island platform and is located in Metcard ticketing Zone 2. It is named after nearby Kananook Creek.
[edit] History
Kananook station opened on August 25, 1975.[1]
On July 11, 1990, Sarah MacDiarmid disappeared from Kananook station. She was last seen walking to the station carpark.[2] The station was featured in the first episode of the Australian TV series Sensing Murder, which aired on Network Ten in September 2004.
In 2007, the station was upgraded as part of the EastLink road project linking the north-eastern suburb of Ringwood to Frankston.[3] The station building was dismantled and replaced with a shelter, and a freeway noise protection wall was constructed.
