Description	Flag depicting the dynastic Arms of the Kantakouzenos [Cantacuzene] family (c. 1350). Believed to have originated from Smyrna, the Kantakouzenos family came to prominence in 1308 when Michael Kantakouzenos was appointed governor of the Despotate of Morea. Related by marriage to the Palaiologos family, Michael's son John became emperor 1347 with the help of a mercenary army. Gules, a double-headed eagle displayed crowned, Or.
