- Mention early hardcore punk influence (Iron Maiden/Judas Priest)
- Mention grindcore influence (Napalm Death/Carcass)
- Mention scenes (Florida/NY)
- Find trustworthy information on subgenres (history, notable bands, and musical traits)
- Get spelling/grammar check

Ian Christe's Sound of the Beast (2003) devotes a few chapters to death metal. If you are unable to purchase it or procure it at a library, I could add citations for you. WesleyDodds 06:52, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
- I'll try to get my hands on it. I'm always in for improvement, so, if you see sections that can be improved by adding citations from the book, please add them.
- I've almost finished the early history section. It was relatively easy to find internet sources. However, a book on heavy metal might be a better source in many cases.
- I think it will be harder to find trustworthy sources for the more recent history and for the death metal subgenres. Ian Christe's book might help me out.
- As you might have noticed, I'm not a native speaker of English. Later on, the article will have to be checked on grammar and spelling. Emmaneul (Talk) 08:58, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
Sound of the Beast is a great read but beware inaccuracies. The author did a great job trying to compile all the genres but the book has errors. For one the author, Ian Christe, gets power metal absolutely, totally wrong. He not only defines it wrong but the bands he puts in it are also wrong. The speed metal genre in the book is defined correctly, but the bands he puts in it are mostly thrash metal. He also has some problems with getting bands where they belong in the other genres, too. The book is about 80% correct, but with some total falsities/ mistakes in certain sections.Navnløs 18:09, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
