Intro
I joined Wikipedia in July 2005.
I am a Hindu who grew up in Bangladesh and whose family moves between West Bengal and Bangladesh depending on the political and economic situation. Presently my family is in Kolkata.
I was the first Woman in my family to be able to read and write and after an informal education and winning a Scholarship I was able to come to London to study.
I am a Devadasi, but it seems the more I learn about my own traditions and culture the more there is to find out.
Contributions
I started by making contributions the Devadasi entry but I was quickly drawn into a revert war and subjected to a number of personal attacks but with help and by following the dispute resolution process everything seems to have worked out quite well at the end.
I intend to slowly build up a wider range of contributions as my confidence increases.
Objectives
I want to use my participation here to help develop my thinking about issues relating to Women from South Asian cultures and how it might be possible to identify South Asian solutions to the endemic violence experienced by South Asian women.
I also want to be able to participate in thoughtful considerations of complex issues around reproductive labour, social adulthood and sex work, with particular regard to how women's agency might be more effectively established.
