The Kamikaze is made of equal parts Vodka, Triple Sec and Lime/Lemon juice. It can be served strained into a highball glass or on the rocks in a lowball glass. Garnish is typically a wedge of lime or lemon, chosen to match the type of juice in the cocktail. The drink's name is definitely Japanese in origin, written 神風.
The drink itself is rumored to have originated in Japan during the American occupation at a bar on Yokosuka base near Tokyo.
One popular variation on this drink is the Southern Comfort Kamikaze or "SoCo" Kamikaze, which is made using Southern Comfort liqueur in place of vodka.
The kamikaze cocktail is drank by Tommy's father in episode three, season two of Rescue Me. He has it made as a triple, with three times the regular amount of alcohol.
This is the drink of choice for pro wrestler Ric Flair as stated in his book "To Be The Man...". One night he drank nearly 100 of them.
A much stronger version of Kamikaze can be made with 2 parts of vodka and 1 part of lemon juice while taking triple sec out of the equation.
