Kamienica (tenement) is Polish language-specific term describing type of building with at least 2 floors. The word of Kamienica is usually used to describe a building which is incorporated to another similar buildings. On ground floor are often shops and businesses. On higher floors are residential flats. It has windows from the front on facade and no windows on gables, because of the fact when it was building people wanted to build another one next to it. It is made of brick and/or stone. This type of building is most prevalent in city centres, especially in old town districts. The name comes from the Polish word kamień (stone) and was used from the 15th century to the 20th century. Now people build Kamienice to rebuild destroyed parts of Old Towns.
