[edit] Synopsis
- "The time train, Den-Liner. Will the next station be in the past or the future?" (時の列車デンライナー。次の駅は過去か未来か。 Toki no ressha Denrainā. Tsugi no eki wa kako ka mirai ka.?)
Ryotaro Nogami is a young man with a lot of bad luck. One day, he finds a strange pass and things got stranger from a mysterious girl and a large time-traveling train to being possessed by an entity called an Imagin, beings from an alternate future whose kind are attempting to change the past. Though slightly confused about the nature of the crisis, Ryotaro, along with the aid of the hot-headed Imagin, dubbed Momotaros, becomes Kamen Rider Den-O, traveling to different times on the Den-Liner to battle the evil Imagin to prevent them from altering the past to affect the present and future. During his adventure, Ryotaro is joined by other Imagin who aid him as well; the womanizing Urataros, the herculean (and narcoleptic) Kintaros, and the childish yet powerful Ryutaros. He later meets the mysterious Yuto Sakurai and his bumbling Imagin partner Deneb. Yuto is not only Kamen Rider Zeronos but is the younger incarnation of Ryotaro's older sister Airi's fiance, Sakurai, who mysteriously disappeared and is tied to the mysteries revolving the Imagin and the Junction Point.
[edit] Characters
The cast members of Kamen Rider Den-O range from the shy and meek Ryotaro Nogami, who is drafted into being Kamen Rider Den-O, to the insane Kai, who seeks to destroy time as we know it in order for the Imagin to rule the future
[edit] Imagin
Imagin (イマジン Imajin?) are creatures from the future who have come to the year 2007 in hopes of changing the past to alter their future to their liking. To reach this goal, Imagin grant the wishes of weak-hearted humans and then go back in time to that individual's most precious memory. When they lose control of their humanoid forms, Imagin grow into massive proportions known as Gigandeath.
[edit] Singularity Point
Some of the humans in Kamen Rider Den-O are called a "Singularity Point" (特異点 Tokuiten?). The primary ability of Singularity Points is that they are able to exist outside of time itself, such that changes in their past timeline will not alter their current state. In some instances, Singularity Points have had their timelines destroyed by the actions of the Imagin, yet still exist in a physical form with their memories intact, unaffected by the changes. The Singularity Points revealed are Ryotaro, Hana, Kai, and the Owner of the Den-Liner. These individuals also have the ability to resist the Imagin's ability to use their body as a host, even control them if powerful enough.
[edit] Pass System
Ryotaro and Yuto allow their Imagin to sometimes possess and utilize their bodies depending on circumstances. The possession makes the Imagin's personality dominant, and also causes a physiological change in the host. The change is evident in the physical structure, where the eyes and a streak of hair change color to that of the dominant color of the possessing Imagin merged with the host. The possession also allows the host to use the Imagin's fighting style while battling the evil Imagin as Kamen Riders.[1] Ryotaro's Imagin are also capable of possessing him all at once. However, if not transformed into Climax Form, this multi-possession is incredibly unstable, leaving the Imagin unable to coordinate themselves and causing Ryotaro intense pain.
The Rider Pass (ライダーパス Raidā Pasu?) is a card-like pass that is used for granting access to the train known as the Den-Liner.[2] This process only works when the hour, minute, and second are the same, such as 12:12:12. [3]
Rider Tickets (ライダーチケット Raidā Chiketto?) are tickets that store information on Imagin. The tickets keep a record of the past date in which the Imagin has ventured and a figure of the Imagin when swiped over a person whose past has been violated by the Imagin.
Kamen Rider Den-O uses the Den-O System, and can swipe the Rider Pass across the Terminal Buckle (ターミナルバックル Tāminaru Bakkuru?) of the Den-O belt, specifically the SetTouch (セタッチ Setacchi?), to activate a transformation. He can also do this to achieve Form Switches (フォームスイッチ Fōmu Suicchi?), and while transformed to perform a Full Charge (フルチャージ Furu Chāji?, finishing attack). Up to four Imagin can be summoned by using the Rider Pass, and each allows for Den-O to change into a specific form.[4] The red button allows for Momotaros and Sword Form. The blue button allows for Urataros and Rod Form. The yellow button allows for Kintaros and Ax Form. The purple button allows for Ryutaros and Gun Form. It is shown that Imagin that are used for the form changes temporarily take over a hosts' personality. [1] With the K-Taros cellphone, all four Imagin can be summoned for Den-O to assume Climax Form. Den-O's Liner Form is accessed by inserting the Rider Pass into the designated slot in the DenKamen Sword. Another form from the Swan Imagin Sieg, Wing Form, is accessed by using the Wing Buckle, but Sieg's place in time prevents the normal use of this form.
Kamen Rider Zeronos uses the Up Set (アプセット Apusetto?) system that functions by sliding a Zeronos Card (ゼロノスカード Zeronosu Kādo?) into the Zeronos Belt (ゼロノスベルト Zeronosu Beruto?), allowing him to Form Change (フォームチェンジ Fōmu Chenji?) into either of his two forms. When the Zeronos Belt is turned into the green position, the Zeronos Card is inserted with the green side facing front, and Zeronos becomes Altair Form. When it is turned into the yellow position, the Zeronos Card is inserted with the yellow side facing front, and Zeronos becomes Vega Form, which is powered by Deneb.[5][6] An alternate version of the Zeronos Card replaces the green side with a red side. When the first of these cards is used, the red side turns Altair Form into Zero Form, rusting its normal appearance. The transformation leaves Zeronos unable to assume Altair or Vega Form afterwards.
Kamen Rider Gaoh uses the Rider Pass and SetTouch system, just like Den-O, but uses a Golden Master Pass stolen from the Den-Liner's Owner that allows time-travel to the distant past.

Kamen Rider Den-O: I'm Born! (仮面ライダー電王 俺、誕生! Kamen Raidā Den'ō Ore, Tanjō!?) premiered in August 4, 2007. This is the second Heisei era film in the Kamen Rider Series to be part of the storyline of its television series since Kamen Rider Agito. The film features the renegade Kamen Rider Gaoh who takes control of the Den-Liner to bring it to the Edo period to find his own train, the Gaoh-Liner, so he can take over all of time and space.[7][8][9] Alongside I am Born!, the Juken Sentai Gekiranger movie Juken Sentai Gekiranger: Nei-Nei! Hō-Hō! Hong Kong Decisive Battle was shown as double feature. A short animated feature called Momotaros's Summer Vacation was shown along with the films, as well.

It features a meeting between the characters of Den-O and the characters of Kamen Rider Kiva. The animated short Momotaros's Let's Go Kiva! (モモタロスのキバっていくぜ! It is being shown at the Kagoshima Municipal Science Hall's planetarium between January 2 and March 30, 2009.[15]
[edit] Parodies
Kamen Rider Den-O has been parodied and referenced in recent episodes of various anime.
- Sgt. Frog (ケロロ軍曹 Keroro Gunsō?) Episode 169 Part A was titled "Bullet Train's King" (ウレレ 電車の王様 であります Urere Densha no Ōsama de Arimasu?) and featured the Keroro Platoon piloting various frog-themed bullet trains similar to the control of the Den-Liner. The episode featured phrases such as "Here I come!" (僕、参上! Boku, sanjō!?), "I am from the start, at the climax" (僕は最初からクライマックスだよ Boku wa saisho kara kuraimakkusu dayo?), and "My hissatsu attack…" (僕の必殺技… Boku no hissatsu waza…?) are spoken by Urere (Urere replaced Momotaros's boastful "Ore" (俺?) with the more humble "Boku" (僕?)). Urere is also voiced by Toshihiko Seki, who also provides the voice of Momotaros in Den-O. The phrase "It's good! It's great! It's awesome!" (いーじゃん!いーじゃん!スゲーじゃん?! Ī jan! Ī jan! Sugē jan?!?) is spoken by Giroro, as these are the lyrics of "Climax Jump", Den-O's opening theme. Keroro also re-enacts the opening sequence of Den-O on his "Kero-Liner" (ケロライナー Kerorainā?).
- Hayate the Combat Butler (ハヤテのごとく! Hayate no Gotoku!?) Episode 16 featured "guest" appearances of the DenGasher Sword, Rod, and Ax Modes as well as cameo appearances of the Owner, Momotaros, and Hana on a train very similar to the Den-Liner Gouka.
[edit] Shin-chan special
Crayon Shin-chan (クレヨンしんちゃん Kureyon Shinchan?) aired a special episode on August 3, 2007, where Shin-chan meets Ryotaro, Hana, Naomi, the Owner, and Momotaros on the Den-Liner. This special is titled "Crayon Shin-chan Midsummer Night: Here I Come! The Storm is Called Den-O vs. Shin-O 60 Minute Special!!" (クレヨンしんちゃん 真夏の夜に オラ 参上! 嵐を呼ぶ 電王VSしん王 60分スペシャル!! Kureyon Shinchan Manatsu no Yoru ni Ora Sanjō! Arashi o Yobu Den'ō VS Shin'ō Rokujuppun Supesharu!!?).[16][17]
In a recent rerun of the special, Shin-chan and Nene meet up with Den-O, again, although to act as a teaser for the final episodes of Kamen Rider Den-O and to introduce Kamen Rider Kiva along with Ryotaro Nogami (Takeru Satoh) and Wataru Kurenai (Koji Seto).[18] The live action Shin-chan also meets with the cast of Juken Sentai Gekiranger for the teaser of their final episodes and later with the cast of Engine Sentai Go-onger to air the trailer for their series.

- "Double-Action CLIMAX form" is an arrangement of "Double-Action" that is the only quintent vocalist arrangement similar to "Climax Jump DEN-LINER form" in style. Its single was released on April 16, 2008, and it will be used as the theme song for Kamen Rider Den-O & Kiva: Climax Deka.[30] Shuhei Naruse composed and arranged the song.[31] Like Climax Jump DEN-LINER form, the single has variant covers which designate its bonus track, one for each of the Imagin vocalists. These singles also include a DVD of the music video. A sixth single has all five Imagin on the cover, but does not have a bonus track nor a DVD.[32] On its first day of release, the singles reached #3 on the Oricon Daily Singles' charts.[33] It ended its first week on the Oricon at #4 on the Weekly Single Charts.[34]
In addition to the above songs, Den-O also has two original soundtracks, an original soundtrack for I'm Born!, and a collection called the Complete CD-Box which includes all of the songs and background music from the series. Not included are the alternate arrangements from the Climax Jump single, the background songs from the film's soundtrack, the film's theme song "If We Met in a Dream…" (夢で逢えたなら… Yume de Aeta nara…?) performed by 175R, and the songs recorded after its release: "Double-Action Wing form," "Action-ZERO Piano form," and "Double-Action CLIMAX form." The Complete CD-Box also contained a DVD for the music video of "Climax Jump DEN-LINER form."
