Kamaluddin Mohammed, better known as Kamal, is a Malayalam director. He was born on November 28, 1957 in Mathilakam, Kodungallur. His first film was Mizhineer Pookkal in 1986 and to date, he has directed more than 32 movies. He has also directed in Tamil and Hindi. Apart from his role as a director, Kamal was recently elected as the general secretary of MACTA (Malayalam Cine Technicians Association). He is also the executive member of the Kerala Chalachitra Academy.
He is ranked as one of the top directors of Malayalam Cinema today. His films are popular for its music as well as the diversity in their theme. He has attempted and become successful in several genres of movies like comedy, romance, campus, drama, action etc. His prominent movies like Unnikale Oru Katha Parayam, Kakkothikavile Appooppan Thadikal, Thoovalsparsham, Paavam Paavam Rajakumaran, Ulladakam, Ee Puzhayam Kadannu, Meghamalhar, Madhuranombarakaattu, Perumazhakkalam are considered milestone movies in Malayalam Cinema.

Kamal has won the Kerala State award for Best Director for the film Ulladakkam. This film was also awarded the Filmfare award and also featured in Indian Panorama.
Mazhayethum Munpe won the Kerala State Award for Best Popular Film, Critic’s Award and the Ramu Kariat Award for Best Director.
Madhuranombara Kattu & Meghamalhar was awarded the Kerala State award for 2nd best film. Meghamalhar also won the Kerala State Award for Best Screenplay, Film Critics Award for Best film, and Ramu Kariat Award for Best Director.
Perumazhakaalam won the Indian Government's National Award for Best film on National Integrity.
