Kalwakurthy is a town in Mahbubnagar district of Andhra Pradesh. It is located 80 Km from Hyderabad, India on Srisailam highway. It is around 56 Km from the District head quarter Mahbubnagar.
It is the home town of political leader Jaipal Reddy. Between 1969 and 1984 he was an MLA of Kalwakurthy. Kalwakurthy is also popular as N. T. Rama Rao was defeated in 1989 Andhra Pradesh assembly elections in this constituency by Chittaranjan Das. Hyderabad state First elected Chief Minister Burgula Ramakrishna Rao was born in padakallu village of Kalwakurthy taluka. Current MLA is Kishta Reddy.
Kalwakurthy taluka was the largest taluka in the district. Kalwakurthy assembly constituency seat had dual members in the Hyderabad state.
