Kalkabrino is a ballet in 3 acts/3 scenes, with choreography by Marius Petipa and music by Léon Minkus.
The ballet was first presented by the Imperial Ballet on February 13/25 (Julian/Gregorian calendar dates), 1891 at the Imperial Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia. Principal Dancers - Carlotta Brianza (as Marietta/Draginiatza), Pavel Gerdt (as Kalkabrino), Nikolai Legat (as Olivier), Marie Petipa (as Cigala), Enrico Cecchetti (as Reuben), and Felix Kschessinsky (as René, Marietta's father).
- This work was not only the composer Minkus' last score for the Imperial Ballet (he retired to Vienna not long after its premiere) but his last known composition, and was hailed as a masterwork of ballet music by the balletomanes and critics of the day.
- The Variation of Draginiatza from the second Act of this ballet is today performed in the celebrated Paquita Grand Pas Classique. It is the only part of the score to still be heard in performance.
